An Open Weaning Letter to BabyA!

Dear Baby A!!
I didn’t expect our Journey of nursing – A phase of weaning will complete this early!! Al hamdulilah mumma was able to nurse you for 650 days!! I am happy for that. Like a dream, A sudden pain came in for mumma and the day next to it mumma was hospitalized. That night, guess you would have thought this day would be your last night to nurse so you were nursing long enough and to be frank that nursing session was the comfortable period of my bad day as You were speaking with me. You were consoling me my baby!! The hugs, the cuddles I can’t forget my love. That particular moment when Dr. Uncle told mommy and Daddy about the surgery mommy felt blank as she wouldn’t able to nurse you for 48 plus hours and then we nursed till momma was taken for treatment. Mumma convinced to forego nursing but she had a confidence that after getting back to normal she will continue the journey but you thought something else my love!!
When mumma came back home and offered the nummies and when she heard “Mumma, BIG” she cried!! Your mumma is happy baby but to be frank I didn’t expect this early to complete this journey!!
Baby, Do you know you were a rockstar in breastfeeding. Mama experienced breastcrawling only from you!! I believed in the miracle of love almighty has made through you!!
The first milk, the first transfer from colustrum to mature milk, the first poop, what not!! Maa shaa allah for this experience
Do you know I tried to make a note of your pee and poop history as that was a sign of you getting your food and you being healthy maa shaa allah
When mumma was adviced to stop nursing as you look lean I was able to fight for your right baby! Mamma made it a point to be confident and keep updated regarding the changes happening in you and within me.
I was able to fight with our relatives when they asked to introduce Water and solids before six months baby!
I was able to exclusively breastfed you for 6 months and then we slowly introduced you to solids when you were ready enough and gave me the readiness! Al hamdulilah
Baby, Do you know we have nursed in all directions! We have nursed while walking, sitting, sleeping, laying side, back all positions!!
Till our 650 th day we will nap with the help of breastfeeding but you have napped and slept even without your nummies!!

I have spent two birthday nursing you. You wish me by nursing at 12 in the night. I would cry in joy when I think about that even now!!.Baby I really wanted to take a picture of us when we wean off but this happened all of a sudden so mumma couldn’t take a picture  but mumma has taken it in our memories. Papa too has supported us in this journey as he has given mumma confidence to nurse in public. Whenever you give us a cue papa will ask mama to attend you.
We have nursed in the air, sea, bus,  train, everywhere al hamdulilah!!
Baby, mama misses the nummies time a lot. I know you became busy and you have grown into toddler. Baby we have done many midnight long hours feed but mama haven’t felt discomfort at all. When mama’s friends cry due to discomfort I didn’t because I enjoyed doing it baby! I have many times discussed with papa what if i would have done to console you if I haven’t nursed you during your discomfort times! How would I made you to sleep if I wouldn’t have nursed you!!
Mama is really happy that I was able to nurse you till you self weaned. In shaa allah mumma will give you a special weaning toy!! And I am planning for a weaning party when I am completely alright just you me and papa!! I am really excited to see you grow everyday but I will the days we had secret talks in the late nights. In shaa allah we will read this babyA’s dudu on your monthly birthday. But I will cry for sure like I did now. I love to hold you tight baby!! Love you a lot.

P.S. Papa also felt emotional! But He said However you grow older you are still his!! Al hamdulilah!!

Beautiful nursing creates such a strong bond between mother and child, (not saying those who didn’t nurse don’t have a strong bond) whatever bond it is, it can never be broken….. see this as a next chapter in the bonding book 🙂

Such a beautiful post! I won’t be able to relate to this as the Almighty hadn’t blessed me with enough for my two girls, that they had to be on formula and solids very early on… but Alhamdulillah, there is always virtue in what He gives for us, right? Being a working mother, it was really helpful for me though I did wish I had some “us” time with them… Lovely reading through… BarakAllah feek! And may Allah give you shifa soon…
